The Lion of Munster: The Bishop Who Roared Against the Nazis

EWTN Bookmark‘s Doug Keck hosts Fr. Daniel Utrecht, priest of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, Toronto,  to discuss his new biography, The Lion Who Roared: The Bishop Who Roared Against the Nazis. Fr. Utrecht’s  interest in Cardinal Clemens August von Galen, bishop of Munster from 1933 to 1946, stems from meeting von Galen’s family while studying  in Germany; Fr. Dan soon realized that stories of the Cardinal’s bravery during the brutal Nazi regime needed to be told. Thus the germ of The Lion Who Roared was planted, which Doug calls “a highly valuable contribution to the inside story of Munster and its citizens during World War II.”
